A Meetup with Readers and Students

My commitment to writing socially and environmentally resonant fiction was appreciated by the chief guest, principal, and students at IBA Public School Larkana on the eve of Cultural Day. The chief guest, Mr. Khair Muhammad Shaik, said: “You have carried on your family legacy in the best way possible, choosing English as the medium of your expression.”

The worthy Principal, Mr. Sarfraz Hussain Abbasi, applauded my efforts to cultivate a literary culture at the school and to encourage the youth to return to reading in the age of social media.

Faiza Deedar, a student from Class XII, shared how my stories impact young minds: “Sir Rizwan's novella ‘Timkey and Pinkey,’ which is included in the book Under the Shadow of Ignorance, brings to light the issues of common people of Sindh, especially women. Sir Rizwan has illuminated gender inequality, forced marriages, the violation of the right to education, and environmental concerns such as clean water and overpopulation. His novella is a movement in itself for a brighter future.”
I had no idea my first-ever stall would be such a massive success. Sara sold a record 217 copies. I enjoyed healthy conversations, signed autographs, and took photos with my readers. When some long-time readers expressed their disappointment at not receiving a new book yet, I reassured them: “I haven’t given up writing—how could I? It is an integral part of my life. However, I have slowed down due to family responsibilities. But something iconic, something monumental will happen soon, God willing.”
The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with readers past and present. The memories we captured in photographs will outlive us, and I hope, continue to inspire the youth to stay connected to books. Thank you all for your time and love.
